High school’s FlexiSketch scheduling aims to boost interventions and career-access; staff outline safeguards for attendance and teacher overrides

Platteville High School staff demonstrated FlexiSketch, the district’s scheduling tool that lets teachers plan interventions and students sign up for pride/bridal-time options or enrichment.

Rachel Kelleher, the high-school librarian, showed teacher-facing planning pages that allow two-week planning cycles, targeted support groups and limits on room capacity. She said teachers can create groups (for example, two intervention cohorts) and cap seats to match room size; the tool was used to manage career-fair sign-ups so seniors had priority for career-cluster sessions.

A student-facing demonstration showed that if a student fails to sign up they default to their home pride time; teachers can also 'flexi-force' a student into a timed intervention when warranted. Rachel described how teachers and homeroom advisors check grades and attendance during a follow-up period so students who are off-track are assigned required supports rather than optional enrichment.

Special-education teacher Sarah Coir explained how tier 3 students are progress-monitored with AIMSweb and pulled during pride time for targeted lessons: “I know this is the goal is to get to grade level by the end of the school year,” she said, describing weekly monitoring and goal-setting for students in intervention groups.

Why it matters: the system is intended to make targeted supports practical within the existing schedule, reduce missed instructional time and let staff triage students by need while preserving enrichment and career-exposure opportunities.

Next steps: staff will continue to refine FlexiSketch calendars and monitor whether default rules, teacher requests and honor-roll study privileges effectively balance student choice and needed interventions.
