Committee approves 2024-25 seclusion and restraint report showing fewer incidents than prior year

A district staff presenter explained the report, which was prepared in accordance with Wisconsin Act 118. The presenter said 22 students were involved in seclusion and restraint incidents last year, with five seclusion incidents and 23 restraint incidents for a combined total of 32 incidents (down from 58 the prior year).
On board questions about oversight and teacher accountability, staff said training is provided to all staff and that teams must meet after two incidents to debrief and review planning and supports for the student. "We do offer training to all teachers," the presenter said, and the district conducts debriefings and reviews after incidents to examine alternatives.
The committee voted to recommend approval of the report to the full board; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote. The item was later included and approved again during the committee's brief special meeting.
