Board approves Forefront Mechanical for Wausau West chiller replacement after amendment

The Wausau School District board voted Feb. 9 to award the Wausau West chiller replacement contract to Forefront Mechanical after reviewing bids and amending the requested amount.
Staff reported four bids were received and that Forefront Mechanical submitted the lowest qualified bid. Administration recommended award and asked the board to authorize the administration to execute a construction agreement. The board moved to approve the award; during discussion members moved to amend the dollar amount to $1,248,000, the amendment was approved by voice vote, and the board then approved the amended award.
District staff noted the bid came in below the project estimate previously discussed, and trustees asked whether federal grant opportunities should be pursued; staff said they would look into eligibility though initial indications suggested an extension or Title I funds were unlikely for this project.
The motion to award and to authorize administration to execute the agreement carried on voice votes. Administration will proceed with contract execution and project planning.
