Board hears progress on LB Clark renovation, gym floor and playgrounds; city helped site prep

Gary Shavlik and facilities staff described interior progress: masonry and drywall underway, abatement completed in at least one containment area, and the gym floor installed and now being stained and striped. “I walked through there this morning, and it looked like they really did a nice job,” a facilities representative said of the site work.
Playground installations were discussed for several school sites. The district contracted Lee Recreation for new playground equipment, and the city’s Department of Public Works assisted with site prep and removal of old equipment, producing notable cost savings, presenters said.
The board also heard preliminary costs for a new cafeteria floor (estimated $39,000 for materials excluding removal) and noted the district is seeking multiple bids for removal and installation. Staff reported CG Schmidt will handle abatement work at McGee, reducing asbestos removal costs.
Officials flagged a possible new road and limited parking near the ball diamonds to improve accessibility (including handicapped spaces); construction would require state and DNR approvals and a funding estimate before moving forward.
No formal board action was taken; staff will return with cost estimates and procurement recommendations.
