Charter leader outlines systems work, family engagement and CESA 5 support

The Tomorrow River Charter School leader reported to the board that staff have been building systems to reduce dependence on single individuals and to improve onboarding, mentorship and data-based decision-making for students needing intervention or extension. "We're really taking a deep look at [onboarding] this year so that when a new teacher comes in, they have the resources and things they need to be successful," the charter leader said.
The leader described work with CESA 5 (Cooperative Educational Service Agency 5), which visited the school to interview staff and students and will return for a larger staff meeting on Feb. 11. The charter leader framed family engagement and consistent communication as priorities and said CESA 5 offered free support and an upcoming larger visit to help develop systems for family communication and participation.
The charter leader also highlighted a guest assembly by visiting presenter Danny Goff focused on helping students "find their own voice" through music and storytelling, and noted extracurricular programming such as an annual overnight astronomy trip run by environmental-education staff.
The board approved the charter's overnight trip later in the meeting; the charter leader indicated some schedule details (grade level) were uncertain in the discussion and said they will return with clarifying information if needed.
