Vermilion Local board approves July financial report, permanent appropriations and consent agenda

At its Aug. 11 meeting, the Vermilion Local Schools Board approved the district's July 2025 financial report, adopted permanent appropriations for fiscal year 2026 and approved the consent agenda, each by unanimous roll call votes.
Treasurer Justin told the board that general fund revenue through July was $4,900,000 compared with $5,300,000 at the same point last year, and general fund expenditures were about $2,800,000 through July. He said the district's general fund cash stood at roughly $11,000,000 and total cash across all funds was about $21,589,000; the capital projects fund had approximately $7,600,000 and the scholarship fund about $1,800,000. The treasurer attributed some cash variance to a transfer to the capital projects fund for a roof and noted recently delivered buses increased capital outlay this fiscal year.
The treasurer also reported food service revenue through July of about $1,300 (compared with prior-year figures) and investment interest for July of $50,314.45 versus $67,188.73 last July.
On motions to approve items on the agenda, the board recorded the following unanimous votes (5–0): second reading and adoption of superintendent and treasurer evaluation policy changes; approval of the July financial report (attachment B); formal recognition of district support organizations per Board Policy 9211 (Sailor Middle School PTO, Vermilion Elementary School PTO, FFA and the Vermilion Band Boosters); payment of a then-and-now invoice of $3,781 to auditor James Zutka, CPA (attachment C); permanent appropriations for fiscal year 2026; and the consent agenda, which included an MOU with New Story Schools for special education services at $6,050 per month, CCP course incentive payments, an Ohio substitute teacher services contract, employment actions and supplemental/extended-service contracts.
A clerical correction was noted for Tony Budka's coaching level on the consent agenda. The board announced upcoming regular meetings to be held at the Vermilion High School Commons (1250 Sanford Street) on Sept. 8, Oct. 13 and Nov. 10 at 6 p.m.
All motions recorded during the meeting were approved by roll call, 5–0.
