Principals present CKLA, writing and engagement plans as Vermilion schools report gains

The elementary principal described protected intervention blocks, expanded small-group supports and monthly teacher team time to plan curriculum and assessments.
Principals from middle and high schools described action steps including implementing CommonLit in grades six and seven, using the Writing Revolution approach across grades and conducting instructional rounds to measure student engagement. One principal summarized classroom strategies, saying the most effective engagement approaches involved collaboration and movement and that teachers will make success criteria explicit so students can answer: "What are you learning today? Why are you doing it? How will you know you learned it?"
Board members commended the work but sought clearer, quantifiable targets in some buildings; at least one board member asked for uniform metrics rather than descriptive goals so the district can track progress consistently across schools.
