Vermilion Local board approves policy revisions, new Corrective Learning Center and accepts October financial report

The Vermilion Local Schools Board of Education on Nov. 10 approved a package of administrative actions, including district policy revisions, the implementation of a Corrective Learning Center at Vermilion High School and acceptance of the October financial report.
The superintendent presented recommended policy revisions for a second reading and the board approved the measure on a roll-call vote recorded as 5–0. The superintendent also recommended a set of policy revisions for first reading; the board approved that recommendation by voice/roll call, also 5–0.
The board voted unanimously to implement a Corrective Learning Center at Vermilion High School, a program the superintendent described as the item presented by Principal Mr. Perry at a prior meeting. The motion was moved by the superintendent and seconded by the presiding officer; the recorded outcome was 5–0.
Treasurer’s report
The treasurer presented the October financial report, reviewing general fund revenues, expenditures, cash balances and investments. The district reported general fund revenue of $1,212,200,000.00 through October (comparative prior-year figures were provided) and noted that food-service revenue and cash balances differ from last year due to coding changes and a prior-year transfer from the general fund to a capital projects fund. Investment earnings year to date were reported at $256,847.77. The board approved the financial report by roll-call vote, 5–0.
Donations and consent agenda
The board accepted several donations recommended by the treasurer, including $1,000 from Great Midwest Sports for athletics; seven Meditech tactical trauma kits from the Erie County Health Department; $7,500 from AG Bank to the VHS FFA program; contributions to the Sailor Way Veterans Breakfast from AmVets Post 22, American Legion Post 397 and VFW Post 7576; $250 from Goodwill Industries for athletics; and $450 from Lake Erie Lanes to the VHS Fine Arts Club. Acceptance of the donations was approved 5–0.
The consent agenda was adopted in a single vote, approving items that included minutes from a 10/14/2025 special meeting, a seventh-grade overnight trip to Cleveland at a cost of $200 per student, a three-year contract with Spectrum to provide SIP phone service, multiple personnel actions (resignations and new contracts), and supplemental assignment approvals. The consent agenda passed 5–0.
What happens next
Board meetings are scheduled for 6 p.m. in the Vermilion High School Commons, 1250 Sanford Street; the next regular meeting is Dec. 8, 2025, with an organizational and regular meeting on Jan. 12, 2026. The meeting adjourned at 6:20 p.m.
