Donations fund turf replacements; board approves Serpentini and Southwest General agreements and FieldTurf contracts

The Strongsville City School District on Jan. 22 approved several donation agreements and contracts to replace artificial turf at district stadiums and upgrade associated facilities.

Superintendent Dr. Bridal said the district’s field turf fund totals about $1,179,000 and that the planned high‑school and middle‑school turf projects will be fully funded through donations and partner agreements. The board approved donation agreements with Serpentini that maintain Serpentini Field naming rights and provide cash support and promotional benefits; the superintendent said the Serpentini agreements represent part of roughly $560,000 in cash donations over a 10‑year period plus donated vehicles that boosters can use for fundraising.

The board also approved a donation agreement with Southwest General providing $75,000 in cash over three years and reduced athletic training fees; district officials said the partnership will include a bleacher wrap and other stadium branding.

Following the donation approvals, the board accepted proposals from FieldTurf USA for turf replacements. The accepted not‑to‑exceed amounts in the meeting materials were approximately $531,440 for Pat Catan Stadium (high school) and $592,914.87 for Serpentini Field (middle school), the latter figure reflecting additional fence work and staging. District leaders said the projects include drainage repairs, permanent footers for play clocks and wiring for future netting; staff will coordinate staging and timelines to minimize disruption.

Board members thanked district athletic and development partners for their financial and in‑kind support. The board voted on the donation agreements and on the FieldTurf proposals; recorded votes on each motion were in the affirmative.
