George Ignacio, treasurer of Strongsville City Schools, said the district's residential property tax rate for tax year 2025 (collection year 2026) is 27.23 mills, which he said ranks the district second-lowest among 31 school districts in Cuyahoga County.
"Strongsville City Schools continues to maintain 1 of the lowest residential tax rates within Cuyahoga County of 27.23 mills, ranking us the second lowest of 31 school districts within the county," Ignacio said.
Ignacio said tax bills for the collection year typically go out in December and January and that Cuyahoga County sets the tax rates used for the upcoming collection year. He noted that revaluations, expirations of levies and new levies are the usual drivers that can change rates but that, for this cycle, there had not been much activity locally beyond a prior-year revaluation and the expiration of one levy.
In his comparison, Ignacio cited countywide figures "the average residential tax rate across the county sits at approximately 40.4 mills" and the county median at "39.44, which is found in Solon City Schools." He also referenced higher rates in some other districts, as stated in the recording, including Shaker Heights City Schools (80.53 mills) and Cleveland Heights University Heights (57.86 mills), and cited neighboring districts Berea City Schools (31.16 mills), Parma City Schools (33.62 mills) and North Royalton City Schools (35.62 mills). Some proper names and numeric transcriptions in the recording were unclear and are presented here as stated by the treasurer.
The presentation was an informational overview in the Financial Fast Facts series; no formal board action or vote occurred during the recording. Ignacio closed by saying the district aims to deliver a strong education while maintaining a competitive tax rate for residents.
