Rolling Hills board reviews treasurer's report, hears land-purchase request and approves multiple hires

The Rolling Hills Local School District board heard a range of routine and substantive items, including the treasurer's financial report, a public participant's request to buy a small parcel of district-adjacent land, personnel hires, and the district's communications and heritage-project updates.
In his treasurer's report, Brandon said the district is renewing health, dental and vision coverage with roughly a 10.25% rate increase and renewing liability insurance through the Ohio School Plan at about a 5% increase. He also described changes to deposit and collateralization arrangements tied to the district's building-project debt proceeds and said a new Department of Labor salary threshold (cited in the meeting as $844 per week) will affect overtime eligibility for some non-exempt positions, notably building secretaries.
"There will be rate increases this year... approximately 10.25%," Brandon said, and he warned that the DOL change would likely convert affected staff to hourly and make overtime or comp time possible during busy weeks such as parent-teacher conferences.
During public participation, Chair introduced Carl Childers, who asked whether he could purchase a roughly 0.24-acre sliver of land adjoining district property in Spencer Township near Coble Lane. The board discussed mineral-rights issues and the public-process steps needed for any sale; the chair asked staff to look into options and invited Childers to show the parcel to district representatives.
The board also reviewed personnel movements: multiple hires were announced, including Tyler Baker (teacher), Zach Rebar (physical-science hire), John Jones (to serve as athletic director subject to approval) and Lisa Rowe and Jennifer Miller as new teachers. The board accepted resignations and listed retirements; it also previewed continued public hearings on a reemployment request by Robert Bates under applicable Ohio code sections.
Staff presented communications metrics from the Allerton Hill report: about 9,508 followers across district social platforms, 1.2 million impressions and roughly 81,800 engagements over a six-month period. Separately, a heritage project committee asked for community donations of photos and memorabilia to be integrated into the new facility.
The board approved a block of consent items (items a through t excluding item M) by roll call, then moved on to discussion and the subsequent vote on the food-service contract.
