The South Range Local Board of Education approved an incident-response and IT disaster‑recovery plan after administration told trustees of recent attempts to log into district systems.
Administration described the plan as about 28 pages long and said the district is required to report certain cybersecurity incidents to the attorney general and other entities. An administration speaker said the district’s malware protections had prevented the recent attempts from causing harm and that state law (cited as Senate Bill 96 in discussion) will increase audit and control requirements next year; trustees approved the plan by voice vote.
In other superintendent communications, administration announced that the district’s special education department had earned a 4‑out‑of‑4 star rating from the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce and praised the intervention specialists by name. The superintendent also discussed a new school care-closet project and an initial conversation with the United Way about a possible $25,000 one-time contribution to sustain the closet; staff said the closet will be stocked and that families in need can confidentially request support.
No controversial votes were taken on these items; trustees approved the disaster-recovery plan and accepted the superintendent’s informational updates, and staff will bring procurement or funding requests back to the board if outside resources are required.
