District to drill new well after one of two wells went dry; estimate ~$35,000

District facilities staff told the South Range Local Board of Education that one of the district’s two water wells has gone dry and earlier rehabilitation attempts did not restore capacity.
A vendor assessment delivered to the district recommended drilling a new well close to the existing site and tying into the current plumbing and electrical hookups to limit disruption. The facilities lead reported the vendor’s initial estimate: “somewhere around $35,000 to drill within a 100 feet of the existing well.”
Trustees asked technical questions about depth and whether mineral issues or parts failures caused the drop in yield. Staff said the existing well had been rehabilitated once or twice previously without success and that mineral compromises at the existing depth made additional rehabilitation unlikely to provide sufficient water. Board members and staff said drilling nearby was likely the quickest practical option to restore the system designed for two wells.
Staff also said they were soliciting additional bids and would seek to minimize costs by keeping the new well within range of existing exterior plumbing and electric connections. No construction contract was approved at the meeting; the board directed staff to continue soliciting proposals and return with recommended bids when available.
