Students, staff and athletics highlighted: fundraising, awards and training updates at Rolling Hills Local meeting

Student leaders and staff used the board meeting to highlight recent accomplishments and ongoing operational efforts.

Olivia Cooper, a junior and team lead, described student-run events including a "please and thank you" week that awarded prizes, hat-week fundraising ($5 for students to wear a hat), popcorn and bake-sale fundraising, and an upcoming anti-drug and anti-vaping awareness week. "I'm Olivia Cooper. I'm a junior and team lead," she said while outlining volunteer fundraising and the presentation of "Cool Up" awards for students and staff.

Ms. Sowers recounted a recent safety incident involving a kindergarten student who was revived after staff intervention: "Missus Biggs was able to do the Heimlich and, got him going," she said, and praised the staff training that prepared them for the emergency.

Athletics were also highlighted by Mr. Jones, who reported multiple student athletes qualifying for state competitions in wrestling and track; he noted athletes who placed in state meets and said spring sports participation is strong despite JV scheduling challenges. Food services staff reported higher breakfast participation, an open house with sample items, and named Amy Richards employee of the month at the middle school and the elementary kitchen as kitchen of the month. Upcoming food-service events include an Easter feast and Earth Day seed-packet distribution.

Separately, a district representative discussed MidEast's efforts to enable local certification of school bus drivers through coordination with regional trainers and ECO ESC, noting that training simulators are in some schools such as Meadowbrook.
