Board approves minutes, bills, personnel items and records principal's retirement notice

At its Jan. 26 meeting the Solon City Board of Education approved routine business items including minutes, bills and multiple personnel recommendations, and recorded the retirement notice of a long-serving high school principal.

The board approved the organizational meeting minutes and the regular meeting minutes of Jan. 12, 2026 following motions, seconds and roll-call votes recorded in the meeting. The board also approved payment of bills totaling $497.26; the treasurer described those expenses as travel and meeting reimbursements.

Under the superintendent's report the board moved to approve the retirement of Aaron Short, principal of Solon High School, after 26 years of service effective Aug. 1, 2026. Board members spoke in praise of Short’s leadership; the administration said the district will engage Finding Leaders, a national search firm, to assist in finding his replacement.

Additional personnel actions approved included an unpaid leave of absence for the remainder of the 2025-26 school year for an employee (the transcript names the leave but not the employee), appointment of listed substitute teachers on an as-needed basis for 2025-26, approval of Tayla Bucarelli as a home-instruction tutor for the remainder of the 2025-26 year, and approval of listed tuition reimbursements (noted as meeting district requirements). These items were moved, seconded and recorded as approved during the meeting.

The board also reviewed building-use permits and other information items. With no speakers at the second public-comment opportunity the board moved to adjourn; the next meeting was announced for Feb. 9 at 6:00 p.m.
