Board approves internal hire for high school principal; contract starts Jan. 1

The Northridge Local Schools board unanimously approved a three-year contract to appoint an internal candidate as high school principal effective Jan. 1, 2025, after outgoing principal Joe Rowe announced his retirement. Superintendent Dr. Michael described the hire as an internal promotion and called the candidate "highly qualified," noting the contract will be prorated for the remainder of the school year.
"We are very fortunate to have such a highly qualified person internally, who has agreed to accept the position of high school principal," Dr. Michael said, and introduced the candidate, who was present in the audience. Board members asked about posting and applicant flow for the midyear hire; Dr. Michael said the district posted the vacancy through the ESC portal (Aplitrack) but that midyear timing limited external applicants and supported promoting an experienced internal leader.
The board recorded the vote as 5-0. Members acknowledged transition plans for the elementary assistant principal who will move into the high-school role and discussed follow-up steps to fill the resulting vacancy.
