Northridge board acknowledges state'run Provision 2 free meals program and orders annual financial reviews

The Northridge Local Schools board on Dec. 17 acknowledged the district's adoption of the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce'administered Provision 2 program, which provides free breakfast and lunch to all students for a four-year period beginning with the 2024-25 school year unless the district chooses to terminate earlier.
A board member moved that the board formally acknowledge the district's adoption (dated 08/14/2024) and request that administrators report annually, prior to the board's May meeting, a summary of the provision's financial performance and the number of breakfasts and lunches served. The motion was seconded and passed by roll call (5-0).
Treasurer Lewis told the board the food-service (006) fund is currently in the black and the finance committee will watch cash flow and reimbursements monthly. "We're in the black and it's doing well," Lewis said when describing the fund's status and the monthly reimbursement process. Board members discussed the ability to opt out, the potential influence on grant counts tied to free/reduced numbers and the administrative paperwork associated with the program.
The board requested annual reporting so the board can evaluate the program's fiscal performance as the provision matures.
