Northridge Board approves organizational appointments, policies and routine financial items

The Northridge Board of Education approved a series of organizational and routine items at its December meeting, including temporary appointments, financial reports, donations and a new personal communication device policy intended to comply with a state law that takes effect Jan. 1, 2026.
Chair (speaker S1) moved to appoint Mr. Hart as treasurer pro tem for the evening because Treasurer Lewis was absent; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. The board then approved minutes from the Oct. 21 and Nov. 18 regular meetings and accepted the November financial reports after roll-call votes that were recorded as 5–0 in favor.
The board accepted two donations: one to the FFA from True North Energy LLC and another to the district from San Gabriel LLC. It also approved a slate of personnel recommendations (classified and supplemental hires, coaches and a substitute), a contract rescission for a freshman coach, volunteer appointments and fundraising projects for athletics, including raffles and sales for the swim and wrestling programs. All of those motions passed on roll calls reported as unanimous.
Superintendent Bloom emphasized that the board needed to finalize a personal communication device policy at this meeting to meet the incoming state requirement effective Jan. 1, 2026. The board approved the policy by roll call; the superintendent characterized parts of the law as imposing many required exceptions but said the district had to adopt policy to achieve legal compliance.
The board also approved additional revised policies intended to align with board and community expectations and appointed Mrs. Beth Thorpe to the Alexandria Public Library board for a term effective Jan. 1, 2026 through Dec. 31, 2029. The board nominated Kate Krieger to serve as president pro tem for the upcoming organizational meeting on Jan. 13, 2026; that nomination was approved by voice/roll call.

The meeting packet included the items and the superintendent offered to answer questions; recorded discussion on most motions was brief, procedural and limited to roll-call votes. The board set the organizational meeting for Jan. 13, 2026 at 5:45 p.m., with the regular meeting immediately following at 6:30 p.m., and designated Jan. 15, 2026 as the backup weather date. The Finance Committee is scheduled to meet Jan. 14, 2026 at 6 p.m. The board indicated meetings will be available on the district’s YouTube channel.
