Arts commission schedules business-district roundtable, plans public-art initiatives and announces theater dedication

The Webster Groves Arts Commission set outreach and event plans for the coming weeks. Members confirmed they had rescheduled a roundtable for business-district leaders to 9:30 a.m. in February (time to be confirmed) and asked the mayor to send a save-the-date to business-district contacts and association presidents. Commissioners discussed inviting representatives from Webster University and other arts stakeholders.
On programming, the commission discussed using an existing Artways map or materials from a staff member named Alex to identify corridors, electrical boxes and nodal points for public art. Members recommended starting with smaller projects (electrical-box wraps and grant applications to RAC) while developing a longer-term trail or art walk. One member suggested a public “scavenger hunt” or walk to highlight private and public art pieces across Webster Groves, including potential open-house ties to local galleries and theaters.
Members also confirmed event planning: the Achievement in the Arts award is scheduled for Feb. 23 and will be coordinated with a representative (Danny Williams) who will host logistics; the commission asked for an awardee bio and headshot for promotional materials. Separately, the commission noted Webster University will dedicate the lower-level theater at Webster Hall as the Dorothy ("Dottie") Marshall Theater on Jan. 16 at 4 p.m., with RSVP details provided by the university.
The commission asked staff to prepare talking points for the roundtable, follow up with Alex and other presenters before the session, and to prepare outreach materials (save-the-date, invitations and a draft certificate) ahead of events.
