Streetscape design moves forward; commission to review plans in March

An agency official updated the Crossroads Business District commission on the ongoing streetscape project, reporting design revisions, right-of-way corrections and a tentative timeline for plan review.
"We ended up with, I believe, 13 lights, to be added," the agency official said, describing a staggered layout and a recommendation for 3,000 K warm-color lighting rather than 4,000 K white lights. The commission approved a dedication of easements and right-of-way to the county to move the project forward, and county engineers revised drawings after field reviews.
The official said the county is still obtaining easements from business property owners and that final plans cannot be completed until right-of-way acquisition is done. He added that plans should be secured for the commission to review at the March meeting.
A commission member raised a parking-access concern relayed by the owner of Bagel Union, saying the owner believed his lot would become inaccessible. The agency official responded that the project does not change access on the Elm side and that "if something like that is to occur, we would need to discuss that with the business first."
The official also warned of schedule pressure because the county’s project manager is concurrently overseeing another nearby project that will enter bidding and construction, which could divert attention. Commissioners asked to stay in close contact with the county counterpart to keep the streetscape on track for next year’s paving season.
