Planning commission adds security-camera requirement to draft truck-stop ordinance

The Texarkana Arkansas Planning Commission voted to add a security-camera plan to the administrative requirements of the draft truck-stop ordinance at its meeting.
Staff member (S4) said the Texarkana Arkansas Police Department requested the addition and that the draft ordinance’s administrative section already includes requirements such as a water-runoff and drainage study and a lighting plan. "TAPD has asked us to add a requirement for security cameras," S4 said. The planner told commissioners that many truck stops already use cameras but that formalizing the requirement was “better safe than sorry.”
A commissioner (S3) moved approval and the board proceeded to a roll-call vote. The clerk read affirmative votes from Anita Pickett, Dr. Hickerson, Chris Owens, Corey Mobbs and Chairman Neal; the motion passed.
The revision is presented to the board for final consideration next year as staff said the city is trying to schedule ordinance submissions around the current budget cycle. No further substantive amendments were recorded at the meeting.
The commission’s action amends administrative requirements in the draft truck-stop ordinance to include a camera plan; the change was requested by the police department and will follow the city’s usual review and adoption process.
