The Coldwater City Council on Aug. 26 voted to allow the Branch Area Alliance Club to proceed with its Lights of Love holiday fundraiser, which will place 100 live, potted 3–4 foot trees on the southwest corner of Chicago and Division streets.
Presenters identified themselves as Wade and Sue Adams representing the Branch Area Alliance Club. They said the trees will be offered for a $135 donation each, may include a placard 'in memory of' or 'sponsored by,' and will be decorated with unbreakable ornaments. The club requested to use city electricity for white lights; trees would be placed the week after Thanksgiving, a lighting ceremony planned before the Dec. 7 Christmas parade, and removal scheduled by Jan. 4.
The council asked whether purchasers must take trees home; the presenters said arrangements are in place to care for trees if buyers do not take them. The council moved, supported and approved the request.
Proceeds, presenters said, will remain in Branch County to support vision and hearing assistance, diabetes awareness and occasional local causes.
