The Greenville County Schools Board of Trustees certified its delegates for the South Carolina School Boards Association conference and approved a naming honor for a longtime educator.
Miss Morrison Fair presented the recommendation to certify trustees as delegates for the SCSBA delegate assembly in Charleston on Dec. 6; LaVentus Wells moved to accept the recommendation and the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
On facilities business, trustees approved a motion to name the JL Mann Academy gymnasium in honor of Coach Ron Moore. District staff praised Moore’s service to the school community dating to 1968, noting roles as teacher, coach and administrator. A trustee who seconded the motion said Moore "deserves this honor" and the chair called the voice vote; the motion carried.
Other facilities discussion included an update on ongoing projects and a brief exchange about parking and a Greenville site: staff said two contractual options remain under consideration and that details on the Greenville option would be discussed in executive session because of potential contractual implications.
Why it matters: the votes formalize delegate representation for the state association and enshrine a local naming honor; trustees also sought additional facilities detail on projects that affect school operations.
