Superintendent unveils 'Vision 2030' framework; board highlights clarity, connectedness and career pathways

Dr. Walker presented a 29‑page Vision 2030 framework to the Richland School District 1 Board of Commissioners during a Jan. 20 work session, urging an inclusive, systemwide approach focused on five components — an introduction, vision purpose, core capabilities, culture and moving‑forward expectations — and asking commissioners for feedback on priorities.

The presentation, which Dr. Walker said builds on a 90‑day findings report, framed the district as a long‑standing institution (established in 1792) that must prepare for substantial regional investment and population growth. "Vision is a comprehensive and detailed picture of the future that includes everyone," Dr. Walker said, adding the district must be "clear about who we are, what we're seeking to do, and how we're doing it." He told the board the materials — the full report, an executive summary, slide decks, infographics and a recorded presentation — will be posted Jan. 26 and open to staff and the public for feedback ahead of a Feb. 26 state‑of‑the‑district release.
