The Riverview School District Policy Committee reviewed updates to policy 707 on Nov. 12, agreeing to clarify end-time language for rented school facilities and reaffirming the district’s fee structure for custodial overtime.
Dr. Monroe suggested replacing a fixed 10:00 p.m. cutoff with a rule requiring activities to terminate "one hour before the last custodial shift," citing variability in building schedules across the district. The committee agreed to add a notation for "or an agreed-upon time" to accommodate events that legitimately require different end times.
Members discussed the district’s existing facilities form and fee schedule for rentals: extra custodial time for weekend events will be billed at time-and-a-half, and the form already documents additional custodial fees. David Turk said he will share example group-classification language from other districts to help determine whether specific classifications belong in policy or in procedure/contract documents.
Neil English noted the district has prioritized school events over outside rentals and confirmed administrators will adjust the policy language and the facilities form to reflect the agreed changes before the policy goes to first reading.
Next steps: staff will add the flexible end-time notation and circulate the updated facilities language to the committee ahead of the board agenda.
