FBLA students collected about 2,000 sensory toys and delivered them to all 38 autistic support classrooms across nine district buildings, the student representative reported during the board meeting.
Troy Gaitis, the student representative introduced to the board, reported that members of the Hazleton FBLA chapter — including Matteo Fiola, Malia Graziano and Lexi Staffan — organized a project called "Fidgets for the Future" that collected roughly 2,000 sensory items for autistic support classrooms across the district.
"The project brought in 2,000 items thanks to donations from FBLA members, teachers, and the Hazleton community," Gaitis told the board. The supplies were delivered to all 38 autistic support classrooms across nine buildings, the student representative said, and the project thanked several staff supporters by name.
Board members and administrators acknowledged the student volunteers and congratulated a separate student, Jace Cicales, who earned third place in the Earth Conservancy’s pollinator seed‑packet art contest. The high school ecology club also announced a nearly 200‑notebook collection initiative for reuse as scrap paper and to provide notebooks to students in need.
The board did not take formal action on the donation during the meeting; the report served as a public recognition and an announcement of student achievement.
