Caddo Parish Commission commends barber Lorenzo Davenport and firefighter Anaya Brown

The Caddo Parish Commission on Sept. 2 presented resolutions recognizing local community service from Who's Next Barbershop and the Shreveport Fire Department.
The board read a special-resolution commending Lorenzo Davenport and Who's Next Barbershop for hosting a back-to-school event that provided free haircuts to children and for the owner’s mentorship of youth. Lorenzo Davenport accepted the recognition and told commissioners, “On behalf of my team at Who's Next Barber Shop, we want to extend our deepest gratitude for the recognition of our community service effort. We are humbled by y'all support.”
Commissioners responded with remarks emphasizing mentorship and community impact. Parliamentarian Victor Thomas said the barbershop’s work “lifts a heavy burden” for families preparing children for school; Commissioner Grace Ann Blake, herself a barber, offered to help recruit volunteers for future events.
The commission also read a resolution honoring Firefighter Anaya Brown of the Shreveport Fire Department as the 2025 Firefighter of the Year for the Kiwanis region. Brown told the board she was humbled by the award and by the opportunity to serve, saying she hoped the recognition would “inspire the next generation of young women to know that they belong in any space they're called to serve.” Commissioners noted Brown’s youth and service and offered congratulations.
Both resolutions will be entered into the official minutes and copies will be presented to the honorees.
