The Northern Virginia Transportation Authority approved a standard project agreement for the City of Alexandria's bike and pedestrian trails construction (SPA 20-22-3291) and separately approved the Town of Herndon's voluntary withdrawal of the Herndon Parkway improvements to Worldgate Drive Extension project (HND-005).
A City of Alexandria representative described the project as primarily construction and said the Authority's $5,000,000 contribution covered most construction costs. The Authority moved to approve the Alexandria SPA; the motion passed unanimously.
For Herndon, the town told the Authority that development and project elements in the area had changed and that the town preferred to withdraw the project and return later with a more complete project. The Authority approved the voluntary withdrawal and reclassified the $4,581,000 previously approved for that project as uncommitted within the regional revenue fund so the town may come back with a new submission without penalty. A board member said the town's decision to withdraw was an appropriate voluntary step and the motion passed without objection.
The transcript does not record specific conditions attached to the reclassification beyond it being returned to uncommitted status; staff indicated the withdrawal would not carry negative marks and the town could resubmit later.
