Town staff (Carrie, speaker 15) told council the MOU provides for the assignment of two dedicated traffic enforcement officers whose responsibilities will include traffic enforcement, congestion management, special-event traffic control during arrival and dismissal, and crash prevention. Staff clarified that this program is distinct from the school resource officer model and is intended to improve student and pedestrian safety while reducing peak-period congestion.
Carrie said the Fort Mill School District has already approved the MOU and staff recommended council approve it as well. Council members praised the collaborative effort and approved the MOU by voice vote.
Next steps: The police department will staff the two positions when feasible; staff will return with operational details and timing as officers are assigned.
