District outlines bus and van contracts, cost index increase and inspection approach

Lori, the district’s transportation presenter, reviewed bus and van contracts at the Sept. 19 Allegheny‑Clarion Valley School Board workshop, detailing extracurricular routes, van contractors and a recent change to the district cost index.
Lori said the extracurricular bus and van contracts cover sporting events and field trips and that van contractors (including the Erwins and Pam Myers) will handle overflow trips. She confirmed Bailey’s will continue to operate the career‑center run under a per‑day rate. "The cost index did go up to, 7.224, I believe it is," Lori said, noting the figure factors into yearly driver raises, mileage and student‑count calculations.
On contractor management, Lori said the district has most driver paperwork complete and will circulate regular route contracts by email for review before the Sept. 16 voting meeting. She also said Randy McClendon asked to remain on the contractor roster despite not currently running routes, to provide backup capacity.
When a board member asked whether the district should conduct visual inspections of contractor vehicles, Lori said she did not think additional visual inspections were necessary because state inspections and insurance documentation are collected and vehicle condition had not been an issue in her nine years: "I don't really think it's necessary ... this is my ninth year doing this and there's never been an issue." The Chair closed the workshop and reminded members that many items, including transportation contracts, will be brought to the Sept. 16 public meeting for final action.
No votes were taken at the workshop; staff will provide contract documents via email and present them for approval at the next meeting.
