Local nonprofit urges Hamilton County schools to use Enterprise South Nature Park for curriculum

Two public commenters told the Hamilton County Board of Education on Jan. 18 that Enterprise South Nature Park is an underused educational asset and offered to expand school programming there.
Melissa Ray, cofounder of Save Enterprise South Nature Park, described Civil War earthworks, a homestead settlement history and World War II-era storage bunkers on parkland that could be used for place-based history and environmental lessons. "There's an amazing outdoor classroom overlooking a protected wetland," Ray said, and said her group is building interpretive materials and self-guided tours for teachers.
Perianne Edwards, education coordinator for Waterways, told the board her nonprofit already holds a contract with Hamilton County Parks to provide outdoor education and can deliver curriculum-aligned field trips and programming. Edwards noted Waterways has funding available for Title I schools to help cover transportation and said reservations could be made through the park's visitor center.
Board members thanked the speakers and asked staff to accept flyers and continue communication; no formal action or funding commitments were made at the meeting.
