Dr. Amidzic reported that district enrollment projections in January anticipated more resident kindergarten enrollments than materialized over the summer; as of last week 34 students remained on the kindergarten wait list. Administration recommended adding five seats under district policy and state rules to bring the kindergarten class to a minimum target (cited as 18) and to offer seats to the first five students on the list as soon as the board authorized it.
A motion to approve the open-enrollment adjustment (agenda item 3.4) was moved, seconded and approved by roll call.
The board did not change its long-term projected classroom size goal; administration said the seats represent an adjustment to current capacity rather than a change in goal size.
