Mr. Heaton presented the recommendation, saying the district had owned the space for more than 33 years and had centralized food services at Battle Creek Central High School. "The recommendation is that we sell it for $125,000, cash money," he said, and added that the transaction would reallocate resources to district strategic initiatives and avoid reputational conflicts if non‑educational uses remained on the property.
Board members asked staff to correct the address on the resolution and purchase agreement; staff confirmed the resolution in the packet is the controlling document and that the law firm had reviewed the paperwork. Mr. Heaton also noted the prospective buyers already own about 84.8% of the building, and the sale covers the remaining district interest.
Trustees moved and seconded the resolution and approved it by roll call; two members were recorded as absent. The board’s action authorizes district staff to finalize and execute the purchase agreement and associated documents.
Next steps: staff will ensure the purchase agreement lists the corrected address and will return any final closing documents to the board as required.
