Greendale board approves SCBAs, annual Welcome Center lease and multiple event permits

The Village Board approved several administrative and operational items during the meeting.

Fire department equipment: Following a finance committee recommendation, trustees approved purchase of self‑contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) units at a village share of $22,496 after participation in a FEMA grant partnership with neighboring communities. The fire presenter said the new equipment will replace packs reaching the end of their 15‑year service life, provide updated facepieces and include extra training packs.

Welcome Center lease: Trustees approved a one‑year lease renewal with Grand Haven LLC for the Greendale Historical Welcome Center that includes clarified merchandise rules, a formal basement storage area and common‑area maintenance charges. Staff reported the fiscal implication is about $32,000 per year in common area maintenance and operating costs; the lease carries two optional one‑year renewals.

Special events and markets: The board approved special event permits for the Greendale Education Foundation’s Schools Out event (June 11), the Family Fourth Fest (July holiday events) and Village Days (Aug. 7–10). Staff recommended designating several events as public celebrations to align alcohol permitting and safety protocols; trustees discussed logistics including bollards, shuttle sponsorships and vendor vetting. The board also approved an amendment to downtown market permits to allow Broad Street (and Parking Street, by amendment) businesses to display and sell merchandise during market hours provided a minimum 3‑foot clearance is maintained; staff will notify businesses of the change.
