Board approves one district bus and driver for large community cleanup

The McCreary County Board of Education voted to provide one district bus and a driver to a community cleanup event after a presentation from a local organizer.
"We have had as many as 650 people at this cleanup," said Tammy, who identified herself as "Tammy with Pride" and described logistics including drop-off points, safety briefings on buses, signed waivers and insurance coverage. She said the group has cleaned 29 miles of roadway in past events and typically feeds volunteers at noon.
Board members asked procedural and liability questions; the organizer confirmed that all volunteers sign a waiver and that liability coverage is in place. The board’s motion to supply a bus and driver passed, and the superintendent named Clint Taylor, the district’s director of transportation, as the point of contact to coordinate the ride and driver.
The board did not place conditions on the approval aside from coordinating with the transportation director; no separate funding commitment beyond providing the vehicle and district driver was recorded.
