The principal outlined the district’s proposed distribution for admissions: bring about 80% of admitted students in the main February–March lottery, award roughly 15% later via lottery to preserve equitable access, and reserve about 5% for late arrivals or changes in enrollment. “What we have done in the past couple years, we really looked at the policy and looked at areas that we felt it fell short in its purpose,” Principal Gallo said, adding the wait‑list process would remain unchanged.
Committee members asked how August applicants are defined and whether the later cycle includes students already enrolled in Lynn Public Schools. Member Reid pressed for clarity; Principal Gallo confirmed August is intended for students not currently enrolled in Lynn Public Schools at application time and for applicants who were not admitted earlier. The administration provided recent applicant totals to illustrate demand, saying this year’s applicant pool was one of the lower years at roughly 600 applicants, versus typical years in the mid‑600s.
Administrative details were also addressed. A committee member asked that the application packet include a position‑level mailing address and a dedicated email account for transparency; the motion sent to the full committee included an amended contact of lvtiadmissions@lynnschools.org and a position‑based mailing address (100 Bennett Street) rather than a named staff member. Jocelyn Guzman described the application intake: the district uses a Microsoft Form tied to student accounts and requires in‑district applicants to apply from their Lynn Public Schools device so artifacts attach correctly; out‑of‑district applicants may email application materials as instructed.
Member Reid moved to forward the amended LVTI admissions policy to the full committee; after roll call votes the motion advanced (Member Dugan and Member Reid recorded as yes; Member Satterwhite absent). The subcommittee did not adopt final policy language; the item was forwarded for full‑committee consideration.
