The committee voted unanimously to transfer reserve funds to cover scheduled computer replacements and to approve a package that eliminates a vacant full‑time telecom position upon retirement, retains the retiring employee on a per‑diem basis and authorizes a new help‑desk technician position. Chair moved the reserve transfer and the personnel package after a presentation from the county's telecom lead, Mike.
Mike told the committee the county has upgraded its phone system and no longer needs the same skill set in a full‑time role. “I don't need to replace with the same skill set anymore because our phone system has been upgraded,” he said, adding that staff would be kept on a per‑diem basis during the transition while project work catches up. He said the hourly rate for the retiring employee would remain the same and that, depending on when funds are available, an actual hire for the new help‑desk role might not occur until September or October.
Committee members asked whether the budget accounted for any period of overlap when the retiree would work part time while a replacement was hired; Mike said the office would perform a follow‑up calculation and that the plan is to keep the fiscal impact neutral for the year. The chair then put the items to a voice vote; all motions passed unanimously.
The actions approved include a reserve fund transfer for anticipated technology replacements and the reclassification/recruitment package for telecom staff. The committee did not specify an exact hiring date for the new help‑desk technician, saying it would depend on the outcome of the budget reconciliation requested from county staff.
The committee adjourned without further IT items on the agenda.
