Webb described last year’s informal student help desk (about 10 students) and proposed a structured paid pilot this summer that would ask for applications and hire up to three high‑school students. "Workload will be up to 40 hours a week, and we'll work with them and their schedules," Webb said; compensation would follow standard summer staff rates and supervision would be provided by the technology department. Webb said student interns would perform real‑world tasks — Chromebook repairs, inventory, imaging, and software setup — aligned with a district goal to offer career‑relevant experiences.
The presentation also touched on AI: administrators said the district is looking to adopt tools that integrate with existing Google infrastructure and to build curriculum elements that teach students to evaluate AI outputs critically. Webb and others cited Gemini as a practical starting point because it aligns with the district’s Google environment and the free Gemini access available through the district Google license makes piloting easier. Board members asked whether Microsoft tools were considered; Webb said the choice is about the district's ecosystem and the portability of underlying AI concepts.
