Board approves 2025–26 calendar clarifications, routine student travel and book donations; middle school slated for new striped pathway

The Bellbrook‑Sugarcreek Local Board of Education on Oct. 10 approved a set of consent items including clarifying language for the 2025–26 school calendar, routine out‑of‑state travel for student activities and acceptance of donated instructional materials from a neighboring district.
Superintendent Doctor Kozad said the calendar clarification does not change which days are in session or days off for families, but clarifies whether certain professional development days are full work days or partial days. "It does not change the calendar of the days that were in school or not in school," he said.
The board approved out‑of‑state travel for high school baseball and softball and for the high school winter guard for their events in February and March; the superintendent described these as typical annual trips.
The board accepted a donation from Northmont City Schools that included science‑of‑reading materials and a set of books: kindergarten 728 books, grade 1 1,058 books and grade 2 624 books, according to the agenda item. Board members thanked Northmont for the contribution.
During final remarks a board member asked about a planned safety improvement at the middle school near Carpenter Creek. The superintendent described a painted, striped pathway from the band room area back to Carpenter Creek to create a safer route for students who bike or use that side for drop‑off and pick‑up.
All consent motions, including calendar clarification, travel and acceptance of donations, were moved, seconded and approved by roll call.
