Commissioners asked staff whether hurricane response work cost the city additional money. Finance/emergency staff said they could generate a report quickly and reported the most recent review showed about $90,000 in total storm‑related costs: roughly $70,000 for salaries and about $20,000 for supplies and expendable equipment, plus approximately $3,000 spent for staff food. Staff said these costs were unbudgeted and are being tracked as emergency expenses that will likely come out of the general fund unless reimbursed.
To make future FEMA reimbursement claims easier, staff said the city established a separate internal tracking fund (internal shorthand '105') to capture disaster‑related salary expenses more precisely than in prior events. Staff said that with documentation of hours, equipment and activities the city can pursue FEMA reimbursement for eligible salary and equipment costs.
Commissioners asked for a short report; staff offered to pull detailed documentation and return it within a couple of days or at the next meeting for review.
