The superintendent said the district's committee had recommended moving from the current contractor (identified in the discussion as KBS) to a company called HES, citing references and stronger management and supervision. He said HES had local employees and would aim to provide on-site management during the transition; the superintendent noted the district would give the current contractor required notice before a July 1 start date for a new vendor.
Board members asked where HES operates and whether the company would ensure night crews turn off unnecessary lights to reduce utility costs; the superintendent said HES would address management and could help with operational savings. The superintendent also told the board that the company under consideration appeared to deliver better supervisory practices and had positive references.

Separately, the superintendent reviewed two board-policy amendments. One change to the transfers/withdrawal policy (board policy J C B B) would allow administrative handling of some sibling and pre-K placement requests so families would not have to petition the board. The other amendment tightens the nepotism policy to prohibit direct supervision of a family member going forward while grandfathering existing arrangements.
No binding vote on the cleaning contract occurred at the meeting; staff said the board can approve the contract in June after required notice periods and final procurement steps.
