Butts County board approves $903,929 GMP for transportation facility; OKs $146,700 bus purchase and consent items

The Butts County Board of Education on Jan. 14 approved a guaranteed maximum price (GMP) of $903,929 for the metal-structure portion of a new transportation and maintenance facility and approved several routine consent items, including a replacement school bus, facility rentals and student travel requests.
Superintendent (speaker S3) described the transportation project as necessary because of a new roundabout and truck route that affected existing bus operations and said the board is advancing the structural/metal building procurement now while vetting subcontractors for the overall contract. "So I'm asking that we approve this GMP for just the metal building... the GMP of $903,929, and it is paid with East Block [referendum] funds," the superintendent said.
The superintendent said the full guaranteed maximum price for the entire building will be presented next month after additional subcontractor vetting. Board members moved, seconded and approved the superintendent’s request to proceed with the metal-building GMP.
On the consent agenda the board approved a purchase of a 48-passenger special-education bus listed at $146,700. The superintendent said the district expects an insurance reimbursement of $125,829, leaving an estimated net cost of about $20,000 to be paid from the referenced block funds. The consent package also included facility rental requests for community events, surplus property (including a broken 3D printer) and out-of-state student travel requests for NJROTC, FBLA leadership conference and an honor band clinic.
The superintendent also presented the December financial report, noting a small deficit in bus driver substitutes, a short month for December receipts and that some tax revenue was still pending; he cited two check amounts as $565,175.29 and $146,034.83 and said a transfer is planned in January that should improve the picture. The board approved the financial report.
Next steps: the district will return next month with the full GMP for the building after vetting subs, proceed with the approved metal-building scope and continue standard procurement and reporting steps. Details on subcontract awards and a final project schedule were not provided at the meeting.
