Board hears policy renumbering tied to 2025 statute, planned security assessments and strong cosmetology interest

Rick Cameron, speaking for the office of chief of staff, said the district recommends adopting policy 43 04 to align with the Indiana School Board Association numbering system and to replace current policy 50 55 17.01. Cameron said the revised policy "also incorporates updates required by senate and rule back 2 55 section 5 adopted during the 2025 legislative session that amended the statute regarding notification for reporting incidents of bullying." Cameron submitted the item for information and invited questions.
Dr. Healy described plans to hire a vendor to perform comprehensive school‑security assessments. He said district staff has been in touch with three agencies recommended by the Office of School Security (a division under the Indiana Department of Homeland Security), two proposals are in hand and a third is pending; his timeline: "Our goal is to review all 3 and make a recommendation to you all by, the next meeting in November," after which the selected vendor would arrive "within 30 days to start the assessment," be on site for "3 to 4 weeks," and deliver a comprehensive report in "4 to 8 weeks," for an overall process of about "3 to 4 months start to finish." He also agreed that when vendors bring research and recommendations staff should arrange for them to present to the board or a meeting so the public can hear the findings.
On program interest, a board member asked about cosmetology application intake. The presenter reported high interest, that the district had held its first open house and planned more, and that cosmetology was a first-choice selection for many applicants.
