The Kane County Commission adopted Ordinance 02026-06 on Feb. 24, revising the county’s business‑license regulations to clarify alcohol‑licensing procedures and to tidy late‑penalty language.
County staff (Jeff) said the county will require anyone seeking an alcohol permit to hold a county business license, to meet applicable state requirements and to provide a background check for the alcohol permit. Staff explained the change is intended to avoid duplicative or ambiguous county requirements beyond state licensing while allowing the county to confirm an applicant’s suitability. Jeff said he had consulted the sheriff’s office and local law‑enforcement partners, who raised no objections to the proposed language.
The proposed ordinance also reworded late‑penalty provisions to remove ambiguity in enforcement. Commissioner Celeste Myers moved adoption; the commission approved the ordinance.
Context: a public commenter earlier urged broader county licensing; staff explained the county honors city licenses for activities inside city limits and requires a county license for businesses operating exclusively in unincorporated areas to avoid double licensing.
