Schaffer, Presenter for Danville Community School Corp, delivered a brief State of the Corporation update to summarize the district’s current status, key challenges and priorities for 2025. He said the district outlined funding projections, enrollment trends and strategic planning informed by stakeholder input.
In the overview, Schaffer highlighted district growth and staffing: "DCSC continues to grow with over 400 dedicated employees supporting our expanded student population," he said. He described curriculum improvements, citing Science of Reading training, new "project Lehi the Way" courses and expanded advanced learning opportunities, and stressed continuing professional development for educators.
Schaffer said the district is addressing operational and student-support pressures. "We're addressing challenges like staffing shortages and increasing student needs, expanding special education opportunities, English language learner support, and alternative education programs," he said. He also told listeners that transportation, food service and technology teams are working to improve efficiency despite rising costs and staffing shortages.
On facilities, Schaffer said districtwide renovations are underway and a new transportation facility is being built as part of a master campus plan. He reported academic and fiscal notes as well: "This year, we're proud of our students' high IRE proficiency rates, national and state recognition, and financial stability achieved through increased teacher compensation and reduced tax rates," he said.
Looking ahead, Schaffer said the district will focus on graduation pathways, educator recruitment and retention, and "smart budget management." He invited community members to review the full presentation and noted that a recording of the Board of School Trustees meeting is available on the district's YouTube channel. He closed by thanking the community "for all you do to support Danville Community Schools" and reiterating the district's mission "to maximize every student's success."
