Doctor Schaeffer outlines Danville campus renovation timeline; full project due late 2027

Schaeffer said work on South Elementary is focused first on the southernmost classroom wing—windows and interior renovations are under way—and that "that part of the project will be done by the end of the school year." He said crews will start on the western classroom wing over the summer, and that final gymnasium updates, including new bleachers and a new floor, plus cafeteria work, will be finished in time for the next school year.
At the high school, Schaeffer said northern classroom spaces are nearly completed, with drywall and carpeting in progress, and that the new secured Entrance 1, administrative offices and the guidance suite "will be completed and ready to go for the 2025-26 school year." He added that work beginning this summer near Entrance 17 will create new art rooms and a new alternative school space.
The district is converting the old pool into fine-arts areas for band and choir; Schaeffer said that renovation will continue through the summer and into next year, and that the new pool area "should be" finished in late fall or early winter as the school year begins.
Schaeffer reported facility work on athletics as well: a new locker-room facility by the football field is under way, the district has "broken ground on the new girls softball complex" near Mackie And Lincoln, and the tennis courts are nearing completion.
On operations, Schaeffer said the district will break ground in July on a new transportation facility located just west of the existing middle school because the current transportation facility "is out of space." He said the corporation also purchased a property south of town off State Road 39 that will become a new maintenance facility to increase storage capacity and allow for larger, more economical purchases, while moving maintenance functions away from the campus center.
Schaeffer closed by thanking community members and taxpayers for supporting the work and said the district is "so excited about the changes and improvements we're able to make around campus," adding that the complete master campus project is expected to be finished in late 2027.
No motions, votes or formal approvals were recorded in the update. The district presented timelines and facility plans; next steps discussed were scheduled construction phases through summer and the coming school years.
