At its regular meeting, the Brown County School Board approved a slate of fiscal and operational resolutions for 2025 and a targeted pay increase for extracurricular field-trip staff.
Staff member summarized the 2025 appropriation, tax rate and levy for the year beginning Jan. 1, 2025; the board then approved the 2025 budget ordinance by unanimous roll call. The board also approved a 2025 bus replacement plan resolution (a legal document required to justify future bus purchases), a 2025 capital projects plan resolution, and a present-year budget reduction resolution permitting the district to reduce unspent 2024 appropriations to provide flexibility for 2025.
The board passed a resolution allowing transfers of up to the 15% maximum from the education fund to the operations fund as permitted by law, and a separate 2025 transfer resolution granting authority to move funds between accounts as needed in the coming year. "This is simply the legal documents that we need to basically prove that we are in need of purchasing buses in '25 and for the next 12 years after that," the staff member said of the bus plan.
Separately, the board approved increasing ECA/field-trip/transportation pay (C4) to $20 per hour to improve recruitment of staff willing to chaperone and facilitate trips; staff noted this was a long-standing compensation discussion dating back to 2015. All listed motions were moved, seconded and carried on unanimous roll-call votes (Carol, Doug, Vicky, Stephanie ' Yes recorded in the minutes).
