Brown County trustees paused their agenda Dec. 16 to hear readings from several elementary students who were finalists in the Library of Congress and state 'Learning in Indiana' essay contest.
Teachers and trustees congratulated the students for statewide recognition. The presenter said six students from the district were among the finalists out of more than 800 entries; one student placed in the top four and received a cash award.
Trustees and staff praised the students and thanked organizers. The board recognized the work as an example of district student achievement and community support for literacy and writing instruction.
No board action was required; the presentations were part of visitor recognition and public engagement.
