A student representing the Brown County football program asked the school board for permission to work a paid fundraiser at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky, on opening night, April 26, and again on Tuesday, April 29. Administration recommended approval and the board voted to authorize the trip.
The student, introduced by a coach, told the board the team would work for a company identified in the packet as Lehi Entertainment, which agreed to pay $150 per person. “We expect to raise anywhere from 8,000 to 10,000 for this fundraising event,” the student said, adding that proceeds would be used to buy new equipment — including jerseys and backpacks — so players would not be charged to participate.
Board members asked about logistics and participation. A coach and the student said the trip would require two buses on the Tuesday date — an activity bus and a regular bus — because some students have afternoon sporting events, and that other sport programs may join the fundraiser to raise money for their seasons.
Administration presented a recommendation to approve the out-of-state fundraiser under the direction of Tony Bell and noted the board could allow alternate dates between April 26 and May 1, depending on need and availability. A motion to approve was made, seconded and approved by roll call.
The board recorded no conditions on the approval in the minutes; the motion carried. The superintendent’s office or the athletic department will handle final logistics and student permissions.
