Board hears fall SEL and assessment baselines; district targets emotion regulation

At the Committee of the Whole meeting, district staff presented baseline academic and social-emotional-learning (SEL) data for the 2024 fall administration and outlined next steps to use the data for instruction and KPI tracking.
Kelly Jackson reviewed SEL fall results from the Insights (formerly "CEL web") and Panorama MESH surveys, saying early elementary overall scores show about 90% average-or-better ratings and that fourth grade had 97% average-or-better in the later-elementary instrument. Jackson singled out emotion regulation and social perspective taking as areas for targeted lessons, and said the district will use the new Wayfinder curriculum (grade-specific lessons such as "respectful disagreement") to address those needs.
Academic baseline: Presenters reviewed AIMSweb screening for kindergarten and first grade and NWEA math for grades 2–8, describing cohort and grade-level RIT score trends; staff reported district students generally perform above national norms with many grade cohorts showing 76%–89% of students at or above the 50th percentile.
KPI context and staff metrics: The board also reviewed KPI indicators including teacher retention (reported at about 91% for 23-24) and staff absences (district analyses show a higher share of licensed staff using 10+ absences than district goals), and discussed plans for further analysis and supports to address absences.
Next steps: Staff will continue to track winter and spring administrations, use the fall baselines to inform targeted instruction, and provide KPI refinements and the public school report card when published Oct. 30.
